Welcome to the 2019 PUBLIC APPEAL pages of the Highland Velodrome Trust
We need your help to deliver the track
Ten years ago, a small group of enthusiasts dreamt of creating an indoor track and cycling hub to serve the far North of Scotland.
It’s been a bumpy ride but that vision has now crystallized as – the Highland Arena. A ‘state of the art’ Community Sports complex featuring only the seventh indoor velodrome in the UK and designed at a friendly 200m scale. The chosen location is a prime site on the new Inverness Campus (University of the Highlands & Islands) at Beechwood, Inverness.
A home for all cyclists, it’s also a gamechanger for fitness and many other sports as well as a beacon for everyone seeking a more active lifestyle while doing their bit for our planet. Whether you are living, working, studying or simply love visiting the Highlands, check out our campaign and give us a whirl.
And there’s more – from time to time the Arena will transform into the largest indoor cultural, entertainment and events venue in the North. With space for thousands to enjoy major concerts, conferences and promotions in comfort it will bring a new dimension to tourism, business and community life here in the Highlands.
WHAT WE WILL DO
Contributing directly to the build – we will raise funds & gift the wooden track, timing and other equipment
Supporting the operator – we will buy community shares in Highland Arena Ltd (HAL)
Representing our sport and helping to shape Arena activity with a seat on HAL’s Board
Training a bank of dedicated volunteers and accredited track officials
Ensuring suitable track opportunities for schools, para and ‘excluded’ groups
Organising a seasonal North of Scotland Track League competition series
Sponsoring a Highland Youth Development team to find and bring on talented stars of the future
Awarding regular bursaries to emerging young riders and for ‘exceptional’ achievement
Developing meaningful partnerships with cycling businesses and corporate sponsors
